Screen Rant
17 Apr 2026 - William Rossignol
This is an excerpt from my Notes app. I think I was just doomscrolling on Instagram and got really frustrated with myself and the platforms that keep us addicted to our phones.

“Stop doing these three things”
“Five meals you need to make”
“Four places you have to visit”
I’m tired of hearing about everything
Stop giving me recommendations,
Just so I stay on your platform
Let me experience my life
Let me figure out what’s good and what’s bad
~
I’m living through a screen
My work happens sat at a desk in front of a screen
I talk to my coworkers through my screen
The people that I’ve met, I keep up with them through the screen
Sometimes we never cross paths again
But everyday on the screen, I see what they’re up to
They don’t even know I see them
My closest friends, the ones close and far
I talk to, often through a screen
Seeing them in person is an occasion
My leisure time is done through bigger screens
A movie, some content, couple of games
All consumed through a screen
I don’t know any better
It’s what I’m used to
It’s what’s easy
This piece of glass has taken so much from me
The same piece of glass on which I’m typing this on
~
I’ve been robbed
And I’ve kept on giving to this thief
And they’ve taken everything from me
I don’t know who I am
